Critical Degrees

I never quite got an explanation from my first teacher about what exactly a “Critical Degree” means. Whenever a planet reaches 29 degrees of a sign, it’s referred to as being in a “Critical Degree.”

To quote one of my favorite and highly recommended astrology blogs, The Oxford Astrologer:

“Now the 29th degree of any sign is an interesting one. Some astrologers call this, and the very first degree of a sign, critical degrees (me talking here…….this link will take you to cafeastrology’s explanation of all the critical degrees. Unless you’re pretty advanced, it will just be confusing). The qualities of the sign are said to be magnified. Isabel Hickey calls this the “degree of expiation” which means atonement.”

Basically, when a planet is at 29 degrees of a sign, it’s getting ready to move into the next sign. This is the Last Chance to take care of business – whatever the business is depends on the planet and the sign.

In this case Saturn, taskmaster, teacher, karma guy is in Libra, the sign of relationship and he’s been there for 2 1/2 years! So this week of Saturn at 29 degrees is more significant than the faster moving inner planets. Saturn moves into Scorpio on October 5th or 6th, depending on what part of the world you happen to inhabit.

If there’s a relationship to be mended, an apology to be made, you have about a week to do it. Good luck with that ;0)

Here’s a link to what The Oxford Astrologer has to say about this.

Has anyone else noticed strangeness seems to have somehow become “the norm”? My computer at home and at work is acting funny. My phone sent squares instead of my text today???

It’s been hectic for the past week and it’s been intense. My Reiki business has picked up and is doing beautifully. I’m loving the new clients and enjoying working with them.

At my other job though – which I also love because it involves people – really strange things are happening and they’re happening in rapid sequence. For example, I told one customer I liked the color of her lipstick. It wasn’t 15 minutes before a different customer told me she liked MY lipstick!

When I woke up this morning I woke up in a panic that I had made scheduling errors. Before getting out of bed I joked to myself, don’t worry about it I might be dead by then so it won’t matter anyway. Don’t you know three customers came in during the course of the day and said the same thing?

There was a heaviness today, unexplained and difficult to describe. And it seemed to be the endless day. Everyone I’ve talked to has said the same thing. How about you guys??

Did anyone else do the Perelandra Equinox Ceremony besides me?

It was so cool…..I was able to run outside at exactly 10:49 AM and state out loud, “I request the next cycle and wish to assist its full unfolding”.

The rush of energy was amazing and lasted several seconds! I didn’t want it to end! It’s difficult to put something like that into words, but I’ll try…..It was inside of me, but not inside of me at the same time. It was a rush, that’s for sure. It was like a cross between wonderful goosebumps and a gust of wind – but there was no wind.

All I can say right now is that I know I was heard! Way cool.

Fall Equinox!!!

Sun enters Libra today (September 22, 2012) at 10:49 AM  EDT. Here’s a link from Machaelle Small Wright of Perelandra ltd who works directly with Nature:

I love the part about Nature’s beginning a new cycle now!!

Celebrate! Find what works for you! Honor the quarters – our ancestors have done so for tens of thousands of years. A close connection with Nature is what we all need.

Happy Equinox 🙂

Many Happy Returns, dear Libras

Tuesday, 9/17 Pluto Stations

Oh, boy. Today, Pluto stops going backwards (retrograde), pauses for a few days (stations) makes its SECOND of SEVEN exact squares (90 degree aspect) to Uranus before it (Pluto) begins moving forward (direct).

This can feel like you’re on the receiving end of a pugilist’s punch, depending on your chart. This is a good time to duck 🙂

People will likely feel a bit edgy and not know why. I wouldn’t try to explain it to them, just do your best to have compassion for them. You know what’s going on. You have inside information ;0)

Remember, this too shall pass!

New Moon/Full Moon Trick

Here’s a neat little trick that should be obvious (but it wasn’t to me). The new moon is ALWAYS in the same sign as the Sun. Why? Because the new moon is always right next to the Sun.

Now a FULL MOON is always in the OPPOSITE sign of the Sun because it is 180 degrees away from the Sun (in an astrology chart).

If you know what sign the Sun is in, you know what sign the New Moon is in.

If you know the opposite sign, you know where the Full Moon is without looking it up.

Aires is opposite Libra

Taurus is opposite Scorpio

Gemini is opposite Sagittarius

Cancer is opposite Capricorn

Leo is opposite Aquarius

Virgo is opposite Pisces

and then it begins again

Most of us can remember the sign opposite our own, so that only leaves 5 to memorize 🙂

New Moon In Virgo

Hey folks!

Today’s new moon is in the sign of Virgo. Remember: New Moons are the times to celebrate the things we want to bring into – manifest  into – our lives!

Here’s a tricky little glitch, though…..It’s in late degree Virgo and Mercury (ruler of Virgo) is sitting right beside it, also in late degree of Virgo (late degrees are the ending of a sign as things transition into the next sign).

In order to bring in new stuff we need to make room for it, so let go of some of that “old stuff” that no longer serves its original purpose!

Take the next few days to plan instead of start something new, especially with this new moon and Mercury in the late degree of Virgo. This is a detail oriented moon!! If you’re lucky enough to have a good friend who happens to be a Virgo, run your plans by them** – as long as they haven’t fallen into the negative side of Virgo which can be hyper critical. Relax, Virgos – ALL signs have positive and negative aspects. We get to choose which ones we want to use.

**Ideas are seeds. Like seeds, they need to be protected and nurtured so they can grow into fruition. Some Native American traditions will not discuss new plans because they feel it depletes the energy. They may have a point. Trust your own intuition! Only share with someone who will offer constructive suggestions and support, not destroy it because of their own issues.

Happy Virgo New Moon!
